Nokia 5130 Xpressmusic
Handset not working

I had purchased a Nokia 5130 XpressMusic handset in April. For many months it had the recurrent problem of hanging while i played music, but that would be resolved when i restarted the phone. However, in September it got stuck and when I tried to restart it, all I got was a white screen with the words Contact Service.

When I took it to the Nokia care center in Dehradun, they said it will cost Rs. 1500 and they will have to send it to Delhi to be repaired, and even then there is no guarantee of repair. In case it could not be fixed, nothing would be charged.

I took a few days to get back to them and this time they said that they can't assure when they will send it to Delhi, so I may get it repaired by any other dealer. I took it to another dealer who took 20 days but could not fix it.

Does this mean my handset is useless after only 1.5 years of service? It is out of the warranty period but it does not mean the company can palm off substandard handsets on the customers. I am extremely disappointed with Nokia. I had planned to buy only Nokia handsets but this experience has changed my perception. They are cheating customers. Ethically, they should replace this set.
