Nokia 5233
Mobile screen not working

I purchased Nokia 5233 in feb it was working fine for 8 months but suddenly half the screen is not displaying any thing. When i went to Nokia care they just looked at the screen and said the screen is gone and have to replace it. But it is not covered under warranty. The price of the display is half the price of the phone. I am wondering why the hell they are giving warranty when actually nothing is covered. Can any one suggest what I can do.
