Fungus on packed food

I bought packeged dry fruits from the store.

2 packets of Walnuts and a packet of Almnds (both without shells)

The expiry date on the packet was Sep 2010.

Within one month (a week ago) the caught fungus.

I went to the store today. They refused to change the unopened packages.

A few reason give:

1. You should have refrigerated it!

2. It must be consumed within a month (irrespective of the date)

3. Sept expiry means it expired on Sept 1st
