It was around 9:30 PM, when i was in T.Nagar. I asked an auto driver for going to Anna Nagar. He asked which place, and he said rs 200!!! Anna Nagar is around 7 kms from T.Nagar and he asking rs 200!!! Its more than what even call taxi's charge!! I taunted to him that i wont pay rs.200 but would pay him rs.400, he started laughing like a shameless fool. Time to ask next one.
Now this guy also asked the exact location, then he told 120 rs. Still for 7 kms, rs. 120 is like double than the actual meter. I told him to reduce, he was adamant and said no. Then i asked his name and noted his auto number. He asked me why i was doing that? I didn't say anything. I started walking, he again asked why, i said, i will complain to RTO.
Then i went to another auto (3rd one), he said rs. 100. It was more, but it was raining and getting late, so i took it. Now before the auto guy could start his engine, the previous auto came and blocked our way. He was speaking in Tamil to the auto guy, talking something about RTO and all that stuff. Obviously he got scared that i was going to complain. Now he started threating the auto guy for not to take me and started threatening me if i complain to the RTO. All this happened in less than 10 mins. So in 10 mins he committed 4 crimes -
1. Charging passenger higher fare
2. Forming a union by not letting another auto to take me
3. Threating the passenger
4. Threatening the auto driver

Now what can i say about this experience. It seems a new low for the already disgraced Chennai Auto Drivers. Do they have no sense of shame/respect whatsoever? I mean such people are a burden on their own existence. These people are worse than criminals, they do crimes in pretense of helping the passengers. These people should be given a life term in jail with rigorous imprisonment or maybe even given capital punishment, They are definitely a curse to human society and to Chennai specifically. Due to such goons, other good chennai auto drivers (minority, although) are getting a bad name.
