Golden layer comming off from the golden ring

I had purchased a golden ring (Nett weight: 2.690gms, Gross Weight: 2.700gms) worth Rs. 2744/- on 05/07 but now the gold layer has come off (the ring has turned to light grey colour), normally real gold doesn't loose the golden layer (in any circumstances). I have the printed bill from that jewelley shop. Kindly let me know the further course of action to be taken. till now i have not approached the jewelley shop owner since it is closed from last 1 week.
