Stopping of Vehicles on a public road for checking

I am a resident of the Vakola area, and everyday am subject to checks by the private security personnel of the Hyatt Hotel. I use the road to travel to my residence which is behind the Hyatt. I am not a resident of the Hyatt neither am I visiting the hotel.

Everyday there is a long line of cars being checked plus there is a second check of the cars at the hotel gate. So why is there this check on a public road?
