ICICI bank offers the facility of depositing cash even in the ATM. I was just exercising my right and all I was left was with a sour taste in my mouth.

On 06/05/09, I deposited Rs. 34000 in my father s account (SB A/c no. 003501011281 Dilip Dayaram Rasal at the Thane Main branch) using the bank s depositing envelopes. As the max. limit of one envelope is Rs. 15000; I used 3 separate envelopes 15000, 15000 and 4000 respectively. Trusting the bank and relying on it s services I forgot about the money and got back to my regular work. And one day I get a shock, a letter arrives at my door saying "The envelope is empty".

When I approached the bank, the bank officials told me that the two envelopes of 15000 were found empty.

Fortunately, I had proof of my depositing the money. Besides the ATM receipts I had filled the envelope in the ATM (in front of the camera) itself. The bank later showed me videos of the clearing department finding the envelope sealed but empty. The video was very blurred and even the manager couldn t point out to me my account number, leave alone my name on the envelope featured in the camera. Besides one of the envelopes didn t even have the receipt inside it that I had sealed inside it along with the cash.

The bank officials expecting me not to have filled the envelope in the ATM in front of the camera (instead must have filled it at home), asked me whether I had done that or no. When I said I had, they felt lame and weak. I asked them to check the ATM camera too. That would tell the truth. But till date, they haven t shown me the video. They said that their cameras in the ATM are just focused to see the faces. Then in that case, what was the point in asking me whether I had filled the envelope in the ATM or no?!

I have to agree that I have been a little busy recently and haven t contacted the bank for the past few months. But now, I am going to take this seriously. I want my money back. I am seriously considering the option to take the bank to the consumer court. And according to the facts and evidences that I have, coupled with the blurred and dull video captures of the bank cameras, I don’t think it will be difficult for me to nail the culprit.
