Cancellation of e-ticket

An e-ticket was purchased for journey from Rajgangpur to Bhubaneswar for 6th Dec by Tapaswini Express in 3AC. The same journey could not be undertaken. Since the decision could be taken at the last hour, half an hour before the departure time at the boarding station, an email was sent just before the departure time of the train at the boarding station on the same day i.e. dec 6th, to care@irctc.co.in as well as to etickets@irctc.co.in for cancelling the tkt since chart had been already prepared. Seeing no response from IRCTC in the first week of January an email was sent, to which they mention the rules that when you and how you have to cancel an e-ticket, something which I am already aware of, because this is not my first offline cancellation.
Whatever refund money I could have got, its all gone. This is what I understand.
Please advise.
