Sir,
This is to inform you that the aforesaid policy was commenced on 28/3 and the premium amount as per grace period was 28/7.
On 28/7, I reached the cash counter of the Corporation (The Mall) at about 2.58 pm. and was informed by the employee at the cash counter that no payment in ‘cash’ could be received as it was 3.00 PM. Needless to say that it was not 3.00 pm, but the person at the counter kept me involved in the arguments so as to ensure that it was 3.00 PM by then. Thereafter, he even refused to take payment along with the late fee because he very well knew that in case he accepted the amount, he would be required to issue the receipt wherein the time also would be reflected. So he cleverly informed me to issue a cheque in case I was carrying a cheque book and put the same into drop box along with late fee of Rs.25/- or deposit the amount later, since the late fee as it is was now leviable. I again asked him to take the amount aforesaid along with so-called late fee and issue me a cash receipt, but he reused point blank despite even the persistent effort made by his colleagues who categorically informed that I had reached the cash counter before 3.00 pm. Ultimately, I was left with no other option but to put a Cheque in the drop box along with the late fee.
I may inform you that the grace period is uptil 28/7 and so far as the cash hours of the LIC are concerned, the same have been fixed as per the convenience of the Corporation for which the customers are least concerned as the Office is officially open till 5pm. Even in the official website of the LIC, there is nothing known as ‘cash hours’ and it is only the date which is relevant. Therefore, there was no occasion for the cashier or whoever the person was at the cash counter to have refused the payment.
Even if it is assumed that the LIC has something known as ‘Cash Hours’, the approach of your staff was nothing short of being ‘Sarkari’, and it is no wonder that the Corporation is loosing heavy business because of this non-cooperative, adamant, stubborn, rude, obstinate, non-friendly, inflexible, unyielding, uncompromising and rigid attitude on behalf of some of your employees.
Even, if it is further assumed that you do have cash hours which are required to be followed, then there was no occasion for having demanded and charged late fee when the cheque had been dropped in the box on 28/7 itself for which there are no such timings whatsoever and the same can be dropped till 5 pm.
A special note has been attached in the premium intimation letter that premium can be paid even on On-line through net banking account. Then, can be it claimed by the LIC that the provision of net banking would not be available after 3.00 pm on any given day which is the outer limit of your cash hours.
It is not a matter of Rs.25/- for which this complaint is being made (because I will be incurring more expenditure in pursuing this complaint) but it is on account of unfair practice, non-cooperative, adamant, stubborn, rude, obstinate, non-friendly, inflexible, unyielding, uncompromising and rigid attitude on behalf of some of your employees and self-serving cash hours fixed by the LIC (The Mall) for which this complaint is being made. You are requested to redress this complaint within 15 days BY WAY OF A WRITTEN APOLOGY, ACTION AGAINST THE ERRING OFFICIAL, REFUND OF LATE FEES, failing which I shall be constrained to approach a competent court of law including Consumer Forum to redress my grievance which needless to say shall be entirely at your risk and peril.
Yours faithfully,
(Amandeep Chauhan)
