This is a complain against physical misconduct / abuse by Mr. Sunil Penekar, who is an officer at the Police Station located at Lamington Road.

Circumstances

This issue started with a heated argument I had with a taxi driver about him taking my money and not offering me change back at which point we approached the above mentioned police officer, Mr. Sunil Penekar. This incident happened at 12:30pm on June 1st outside the Panchratna building near Girgaum Chowpatty. After a few lines of trying to resolve this issue, the officer started shouting at both of us in the middle of a large crowd, in what seemed like he took joy in his position of power. The next thing I know he grabbed my arm with absolutely no physical provocation from my side and asked me to come to the police station. I asked him to let go of my arm as there was no need to do so. This seemed to have heightened his temper as he went on to grab my hair and dragged me to a police van, hit me multiple times on my back and head and pushed me into the van.

To cut this story short, the police officers in the van, then took me to the Girgaum police station and they filed a complain against me for verbally abusing the taxi driver.

I'd like to point out, that I did try going through the process provided by law, of filing a complaint against the police officer at the Lamington Road police station. However, when I asked to do so, I was threatened by his senior who was listening to my case, that I would be charged with something along the lines of "obstruction of justice", and I'd be thrown into jail until I get a chance to talk to a judge.

This is the point where I gave up and decided to apologize and not file the complaint. Although I feel that I am not doing my duty as a citizen of this city and country by not going through with the process of filing a case against the police officer, it is my hope that this little online complaint, serves at least in some small part in me fulfilling my duty.
