Harassing for dues after membership is ove

I took an 18 month membership which expired in June. Since I had been injured by a personal trainer I was granted an extra month that was supposed to be added, extending it to July. When it was over, I got a couple of phone-calls asking me about my status and each time I informed the marketing person calling that I was not renewing my membership, I also explained the reason for the extra month.

I thought that was end of the matter. Now out of the blue in late December I get a letter which claims that they have sent me letter for the past 3 months (not true) and that I need to pay my arrears on my account to the tune of over Rs. 12, 000/-!! Further action is threatened if I don't pay up in 7 days.

They ask me to look at my contractual obligations i.e. the fine print on my original contract (which of course I don't have anymore).. and I believe this is a scam that is perpetrated on innocent people who assume their membership is over once the stipulated time period is done. I have also on more than two occasions informed who ever has called of the same.

I have absolutely no intention of allowing them to extort money from me in this fashion and I am appalled that a reputed organization like that would resort to this sort of behavior. I will raise this issue in various forums if I am harassed by them in this fashion.
