Canon/power shot A590
Not working

I bought a canon power shot A590 on Nov 3rd 2008 as a first gift for my wife and took that cameral for our honeymoon to mauritius. It never got charged properly though we had charged it with the recommended time by the dealer. It kept switching off and we have to keep it in a off mode so as to save power for those wonderful photos. came back to india and took it to the dealer who kept for a day and said it is working fine, but again the same problem occurred. So he took 600 more and replaced with a high power charger, but still it does not work. After charging overnight, the moment you switch it on, it will say bat low. The dealer does not even bother about it now, atleast I would have gone to him some 10 times. Now it is lying like a paper weight and we are taking photos with our mobile phones. What a plight?? I am sure there must be something wrong with the particular piece or batch... Need some help on this matter. Pls
