Compaq presario cq 40

I want to connect LAN in my laptop (model- compaq presario CQ 40). it consist of ETHERNET DRIVER of LAN. i have done all the settings of lan connection and it shows that lan is connected but websites does not open. so please tell me the prosedure of lan connection through eternet driver.
