First Class on Indian Trains

We travelled on first Ac on the Tamil Nadu Express on the 30th of March from Chennai to Delhi. We thought we were safe on the first Ac, when we locked the door from the inside. My family had the coupe to ourselves; my husband, myself & our 3 year old son. Between 2 am and 6 am someone came into our coupe and took all our money. I was horrified to find that it was so easy to open the door from the outside. And our complaints were taken so lightly by all - the TT, the steward in the boogie, and the Police Constable.

What sort of safety measure is that... to provide a door lock which can be opened from the outside with such ease?
