Excess payment refund

I had paid MTNL telephone bills in excess. The company knows it as bill payments are computerized. However when I visited their account office I was told to come with original bills. I had opted to pay through HDFC Bank's bill pay facility and it so happened that the bank informed me that the bill couldn't be paid. So I paid by cheques and the the Bank also paid the bill. This happened 3 or 4 times. Thereafter I discontinued this facility. I don't have these bills in original as I have become lazy after retirement. I am now 65. As the company knows that it has received excess payment it should have given me credit in next month's bill. This was alright till there were no computers. But when the company is in a position to know exact excess amount paid by me it should immediately give me credit. The private Cellphone companies do this. This being PSU it should do without making us complaining by visiting the account office or on insisting to bring original bills.
