Unknowingly interest deducted from Principal amount

1. Lodha office despatched Slab 7 demand letter on 25 May'11, letter dt was 18 April due date was 4th May. They sent soft copy through mail on 28 April'11, so I informed them reg. non-receipt of demand letter on 28th April, 11 and followed up with them from 4th May'11.

2. They charged me interest for intimating on 4th May'11 about non-receipt of Demand letter... is this legal???

3. After I received demand letter on 25 May'11, I sent to my banker for disbursement of payment which I got on 2nd June'11 and the same day I Couriered it to Lodha office, which was received by them on 3rd June. They payment for Slab 7 was Rs. 99, 792/-.

4. The receipt for the Slab 7 was received by me, after deducting interest from Principal Amount - Rs. 1, 624/- on 20th June'11 and Principal Amount - Rs. 98168/- on 29/6.

5. In the mean time, I received intimations for -

a. Slab 9 demand letter dtd 4/6 on 8/6 Interest charged Rs. 20, 784/-

b. Brick work letter dtd. 18/6 on 22/6 interest charged Rs. 376/-

c. Slab 11 demand letter dtd 4/7 on 8/7 interest charged Rs. 1, 274/-

Demand letters were sent late by the Lodha office, so whose mistake is it??

They do no intend to check at their end and send us an arrogant reply saying they have checked the records and could not waive off the interest.

They deduct interest from Principal amount. At the end during possession, the builder will ask for difference in principal amount from us. The Banker will not provide payment if we do not pay their principal amount given to us.

What should I do, if these builders harass customers with unnecessary interests. Any suggestions.
