Car damaged due to fire at Authorised service center at Cargo Motors

I received a call from Cargo Motors on 21st Aug at 17.10 informing me that my car has caught fire during the repair work at Cargo Motors due to which the car's wiring harness has been damaged in the engine section.

Cargo Motors is asking me to claim insurance and get it cleared at my cost which is not a customer's fault (my fault) or comes under customer purview. I spoke to Mr. Suri (President, Cargo Motors) on this case and did not get a good response on the next action. On the contrary, he was educating me about my car being 7 years old and I should look for an alternate option. Is this the kind of accountability your authorized service center carries?

My car is in a damaged, immobile condition at the workshop at SG Road, Cargo Motors requiring attention and immediate next action. Cargo Motors is bent upon making me claim insurance to process the damage.

I had given my car in running condition to Cargo motors on dtd-14th Aug for a regular maintenance, engine tuning and brake pad (front) checking and replacement. They called me up to pay the amount (Rs 5539/-) towards consumables and brake pad replacement on dtd - 18th Aug. When I insisted on taking me on a test ride before making payment, they obliged but to my surprise the car tagged as 'Serviced and waiting to be delivered to customer' was not even in running condition at that time. It had to be towed back to their garage for the problem analysis.

Finally on 21st Aug I am being told that the car has caught fire and the wiring harness (and some other parts which will be known only after inspection) has got damaged and requires me to process for fire insurance claim at my cost.

Cargo Motors authority - Service Advisor -Mr. K.C.Bhatt says that the car would have been serviced properly but while washing in their garage some part would have got spoiled due to water force and hence the car was in that plight. Is this what you call a skilled workmanship backed up by TATA Motors brand as "Authorized Service Center".

I would appreciate if TATA Motors-Senior management gets involved and takes necessary steps with Cargo and gets the repair/replacement of damaged parts at their cost and keeps me updated on that. I am writing to this email id and in addition I am arranging to send this in a letter to your head office/Ahmedabad regional office for necessary action.

I hope TATA starts the investigation on to this problem with CARGO motors and does the needful so I do not have to proceed to a still higher level escalation mechanism.

Best Regards,

Rohit Sivakuma
