Instite of Business Management
MBA education

The good, bad and ugly side of our college IBM

Good:

1. The faculty is very good and knowledgeable.

2. The fees are very very low.

3. There are basically two courses PGDM and MBA both are AICTE approved (althouth the AIMA's PGDM's AICTE approval is under verification)

4. A degree from JU (the pgdm gets a diploma from AIMA)

5. Dr. Jaytilak Biswas is a great great teacher.

Bad:

1. Both courses are part-time so big companies overlook students from IBM as we donot have a full-time course.

2. Classes are not regular.

3. The course content is atleast 20 years old and not industry relevant.

4. There are very few (only 3) projects and no presentations during the course duration.

5. Very few companies attend the placement session (09) saw only 2 companies who took 6 students from the 3 year JU degree students with maximum salary of 15000.

Ugly:

1. The diploma awarded by AIMA is of no use in the industry as students have tried to reach out to nearly 50 big companies but they don't recognize the PGDM degree.

2. The AIMA's diploma is under review by AICTE and the course is already black-listed by UGC, that is you will not any bank loan and no government job.

3. The infrastructure is poor.

4. No seminars or industry interaction is conducted.

5. The teachers don't pay any attention to weak students.

6. Study material provided is not industry relevant

7. The AIMA course doesnot have any minor and major specialization has only 5 topics whereas under UGC norms minimum 7 topics are to be taught.

8. The insurance module is good but all other modules are worthless.

9. Fresh students studying from IBM has a bleak future as most have to work as salesman or insurance agents after passing from here. Only those with experience or the working professionals can add value to their resume after studying at IBM.

10. The college has only 8 permanent faculty for the MBA 3 year course (among them only 5 are MBAs of which 2 are from IBM itself!) and only 2 for the AIMA course.

Hope this information helps all prospective students. My opinion is avoid IBM if you are a fresher and if possible join only the JU affiliated degree course. Don't waste your time or money on any other course.

Thank you,

I can't reveal my name but I am a former student in the 09 batch

working as an insurance agent and looking to do a fresh MBA in correspondance from a reputed college...
