Coimbatore, Feb28:The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has unearthed a spurious ISI marked packaged drinking water manufacturing unit here and seized substantial quantities of materials during a recent raid.
The raid was conducted to check the misuse of ISI mark on Packaged Drinking water on the premises of Kapil Aqua Processor in Ramnagar on February 25, BIS director, G Bhaskar said in a release today.
Fake ISI marked packaged drinking in 20 litre Pet Jars bearing brand name 'Kapil Aqua' was being filled and packaged without a valid licence from BIS, he said.
Action is being initiated against the offender under BIS Act, which is punishable with imprisonment upto one year or a fine upto rs.50, 000 or both, Bhaskar said.
The public is being informed, so that they should exercise caution while purchasing packaged drinking water from the market, Bhaskar said.(Agencies)
