Reporting a Crime
I decided to report a particular crime which is going on all around us. But the unique thing about this offence is that on surface it doesn't seem like a crime; for it is carried on in the most careful manner.
As you know that today un employment is on the rise. Score and scores of young men and women are on the look out for some decent way of earning. They go through Newspapers to find that elusive job. If you go through the vacancy columns of any newspaper ; you will come across these ads which promise an earning of 10000 to 15000 per month by working on PC for some hours at home. They come under the heading Computer or Part time jobs. These people have a very fine modus operandi. On reading the Ad when someone approaches them; they make the candidate talk to a front office girl/ boy who is in most cases a glib talker and impresses upon the candidate that this is the best way to earn money. Then when the candidate seems a bit impressed: the money part comes. They charge a one time registration fees which may wary from 2000 to 6000 or even more in some cases. This is non refundable. Logic that is given is that if you start a business then also you have to invest. And this is minimum investment and maximum gain. And you will be your own boss and work as you wish and when you wish.
Now I will tell what this work is about. After getting registered a person has to wait for 15 to 20 days until the actual work arrives. What is this work? These firms assign some files to every member. These files are either in jpg format or tiff format or pdf format. The member is supposed to convert them to word format by following some guidelines ; like formatting, spacing, page format etc. the files are either given in a CD or via Net. A deadline is set for submission of work: say a week. One has to return the work in the set time frame or his work gets rejected and he loses the membership too.
On surface it may seem as a simple typing job. But there is a catch in this also. At the time of membership the work seeker is told that for this work you don't need any special typing skills. No speed is needed and one has to put in just 4 to 5 hours in part time to complete it. But the reality is different. An unskilled person has to log in anything between 10 to 15 hours a day. Then also with the passage of time as the assignments get heavy, it becomes difficult and then impossible to complete the work in deadline. Besides this another sword is hanging over the member. That of accuracy. One is supposed to maintain a particular accuracy ; say like 97% or 99%. If it is not achieved then also one runs the risk of losing the membership and the money. To top it becomes more frustrating when one loses not just the membership money; but not a dime is paid for all the labor that goes in completing the assignment. You can't protest as at the time of membership every candidate is made to sign an agreement which has terms and conditions. These terms are all in favor of the company. A member is bound to submit the work on a said date; but the company is not bound to pay by a said date.
I have personally gone through this entire grind. I know how frustrating and humiliating this can be. From the last two years I tried my best and took memberships at various companies with the hope that I won't be taken for a ride this time. But all are same. I have the physical addresses and contacts of all these scamsters.
I sincerely hope that you please make a case out of this. Every day thousands and thousands of jobseekers fall prey to these swindlers. They are reaping huge profits at the cost of hard earned money of people like me. You are my last hope. I had thought of filing a PIL ; but cant afford the litigation charges.
