Netscape
850$ of Long distance charges incurred for internet time- dial up # (provided by Netscape) is listed as local, but the # on the phone bill is long distance!

Netscape users beware! Netscape rerouted my dial up number to a modem at a long distance number.

With the help of the phone company I figured out that the number I choose as a dial up number from the list provided by netscape, was rerouting my call to connect to the internet to another modem in an area that is long distance for me. The evidence is in my phone bill-Currently at a total of 850$ and still climbing. Yes I said 850 Dollars!!

When viewing my detailed long distance bill the same number is dialed everytime and the times and duration match my internet usage however the number being dialed (the number on the bill) does not match the number that I selected from the list provided by Netscape when selecting my dial up options. Concurrently the number does not match the number that is displayed everytime I sign on.

Now to the second part of my beef with Netscape.

I attempted to contact netscape support -I called tech support and billing-after being transfered back and forth between both departments telling my story each time only to be told I needed to talk to someone in another department (and there's only two departments).

I Finaly after an hour managed to determine that both the Tech support department and the Billing department are based in New Deli-India. Not that there is anything wrong with the people in New Deli but resloving my kind of dispute with an out sourced entity in another country is not only impossible but Madening.

I was told by the supervisor of the tech department that what I said was happening "just isnt possible-even though we have recieved other complaints like yours, it isnt possible for a number to be rerouted to another number."

When asked of both the billing department and the tech department who I could approach with my complaint-and to seek finacial restitution for the long distance charges on my bill I was told " I dont know." I asked both departments where theyre corporate office was and they both advised Jacksonville Florida, but neither could provide a telphone number to contact ANYONE at theyre corporate office!

The Tech department finaly provided a Fax number and the billing department supplied a mailing address. You can imagine my disbelief and frustration that the out sourced agency had no Modern way to contact it's own corporate office-It's just barbaric!

Personally I am gathering all my evidence of which I will be FAXING and Mailing to not only the Netscape Corporate office (in the US) but also the Attorney General and just about every government body I can-along with any media willing to listen.

I send this warning because I just may have to sue Netscape, and if that happens I want to know if anyone else is having the same problem.

So that anyone out there that has a bone to pick with netscape that's anything like mine can e-mail me they're story.
