This is to bring to your kind notice: -
I contacted the official agent of Gati Ltd at Gaya in Bihar in the second week of June for transportation of my household goods to Greater Noida U.P. On my query regarding freight charges he said that he would come and see the goods first at my home. After inspection of the goods he told that the freight charge would be around Twelve Thousand only; he also suggested me to get the articles packed by the company's persons who are expert in the job for this he asked for Rs.1500 plus cost of packing materials extra; He promised me that my articles will be reached to my home at Noida safely. Any damage will be the sole responsibility of the company and on he who will pay entire cost of damaged articles if so happens. He convinced me for his good services and that of Gati Ltd for which he was working; he also told me to deliver the goods at Greater Noida on gating a telephone call from me confirming my return by 30.6.2007.
Ø On 19.6.2007 the agent came to my residence at Gaya along with a truck Tata 407 in the afternoon ALL articles were loaded in the said truck. The agent asked me to come to his office for payment taking receipt. I was very much surprised and astonished that he gave me a bill DOCKET No.423782156 for Rs.35108 (Rupees Thirty five thousand one hundred and eight) instead of estimated amount Rs. Twelve thousand then asked him to unload my goods but I was told that the truck had already left For destination. It was about 9.45pm the agent was not listening to any of my points any further arguments with them appeared to be futile and would have made the situation ugly. Though deceived I had no option but to make the payment as demanded which I did through cheque and saved my Prestige. Packing charges and material cost had already been paid in cash.
Ø The consignments were delivered at my place in Greater Noida on 26.6.2007 in my absence. On my return I found that most of the articles were very badly damaged. Steel almiras; Airconditiner; Wooden sofa; Wooden dressing table, Crokeries, All looking glasses, Glass of central table, Steel trunk etc were all damaged. I immediately reported the matter to the Office of Gati Ltd B-27 sector-5 Noida; Mr Pawan Saini on phone; then subsequently to the Manager, Gati Ltd, Noida in writing. As suggested by them I contacted Mr. A K Giri, manager at Patna and then to Mr. A N Jha Manager at Patna. From every body assurance for early action given but nothing concrete has been done yet. In the mean time Mr. J N Jugran a surveyor came for inspection took photographs of the damaged articles on 8th September but no result has come till date. I fear that I have done great mistake by relying on the name of a renowned transport company&-quot;GATI Ltd". I am a retired Govt officer aged about 69 years having not much strength to run here and there to get justice thereby have to suffer a great loss.
