While filing our MCD Property tax return for current year 09, we have realised with great pain that MCD is not allowing 30% discount to Women/Sr. Citizens, if the property though residential, is not self-occupied. In other words, if the property is let out to tenants, the above 30% discount is not allowed.
You are aware that where the property is let out to tenants, the property tax is already charged at 200%.
The 30% rebate on tax is allowed to Women/Sr. Citizens as they do not have any other source of income and owing to their incapacity to engage in occupation/work thereby earning income etc. It is therefore, logical to allow this rebate to them irrespective of the fact whether the property is self-occupied or let out to tenants.
How can the MCD penalise them TWICE by charging 100% loading on tax for tenanted property and also by withdrawing the tax rebate of 30% to which they are legitimately entitled to. Some one should take note of it and take up the matter seriously with MCD Standing Committee Chairman Mr. Vijendra Gupta.
