We resided at a rented house in C3-382, first floor janakpuri. due to construction of our own house we informed our landlord one month before ie. 9th september of our plan to vacate that we will be shifting to our new house after a month. as per our rent agreement we gave a one month notice but it was given verbally due to mutual understanding between us and our land lord. our monthly rent was Rs. 5000 but due to this understanding we payed our landlord a cheque of rs. 1000 as he adjusted the security amount of Rs. 4000 with him in the rent. however on the day of settlement i.e. 8th october our landlord called us at his brother's residence who forcefully made us sign a cheque of entire month's payment i.e payment for full month of october i.e. Rs.5000 along with electriclity bill of Rs. 1156 totalling to 6156. we were very scared due to forceful behaviour of his brother and signed the cheque of amount asked by him. however after coming out of his house we decided to stop payment of cheque after leaving the rented residence. we did the same and instead issued another cheque amounting to Rs. 2656 i.e rent of 8 days and electricity bill and handed it along with house keys to a neighbourer. after few days our landlord sent us a letter saying that he will file a court case against us that we had not paid entire month's rent and the cheque of 6156 had bounced back so he will file a fraud case. he is abusing us and demanding a cheque of 6156 and says that if we do not give he will file a court case. we are being harrassed by him and he is calling us to his brother's residence again. what should we do? we are working people and do not have time to go to courts. but if we give the money this will be the case of might is right. Please help us.
