Multiplexes in Mumbai
Illegal trade practices

I am sure that every single person in the concerned legal departments in the government is aware of this situation and am also aware that it is happening with their permission where they just turn away from what is happenning. It is known to one and all in public, and it is also mentioned in black and white as per law that no retailer is allowed to sell goods at a price more than what is mentioned as the Maximum Retail Price (MRP), printed on the pack of the product. Apart from that the COnsumer Forum also comes up with ads in TV and radio, that the end consumer can also negotiate with the retailer on the printed MRP. But, go to any multiplex in town and you will see a blatant defiance of this law. For example a pack of chips that has an MRP of Rs.10/- printed on the pack, but the very same pack is sold for Rs. 25/-, similarly a bottle of packaged drinking water that has an MRP of Rs.13/- printed on it goes for about the same price of Rs.25/-. And, people visiting these multiplexes are forced to buy these goods at the price demanded cause you are not allowed to carry anything from outside. They security at the multiplexes actually frisk your bags and take things away. This is worse than highway robbery, cause this is happenning in full view of the entire legal system of the country, and no one seems to be bothered. We really gotta do something about this. Come to think about this then these mulitplex owners should not complaining about losing money because of piracy. Cause it is because of such illegal practices on their side that the public end up supporting piracy. I am not justifying piracy, but if the government wants to crack down on piracy, then they have to crack down on the illegal trade practices by these multiplexes.
