Recently My mother had gone to submit her passport application. She write her name as Veena Sharma and as per practice in North India she does not use her husband's (my father's) name as her middle name. However the passport official attending the desk forced her to change the name as he was not ready to accept the application without that. Can anyone enlighten me whether it is mandatory to use the father's husband's name as middle name, because I don't think so. Moreover is it not mandory to display the name of the official attending any public desk to display his/her name prominently.
