B L MAHESHWARI OF BAGAR
CHANDAK OR SOMANI

BAGAR in Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan is the native place of Bishwambharlal Maheshwari. He had seven children. He had four sons Krishnagopal Maheshwari, Beniprasad Maheshwari, Mahavirprasad Maheshwari and Madangopal Maheshwari. My paternal grandmother Krishnabai Mantri was the eldest child. She had taken me to Bagar on the way to our native place Churu which is close by. In Bagar, we stayed with her cousin Brij Mohanji Chandak and his family in the Haveli. The Haveli is a majestic building in marble like a Mahal. When I asked my grandmother why her brothers in Mumbai used `Maheshwari' as their surname. She told me that her father was born in Somani family and was adopted by Chandak family. I was not able to understand then but today when I visited the website of Bagar, I read about two schools of B L Maheshwari in Bagar. I also came to know that Maheshwari House at 36 Nepean Sea Road is actually shown as the premises of Gopal Traders Pvt. Ltd.
