Two held on cheating charge

Gullible investors duped to the tune of Rs. 2.5 lakhs
VISAKHAPATNAM: The City Task Force Police on Wednesday arrested the manager and an employee of a chain marketing company on the charge of cheating gullible investors to the tune of Rs.2.5 lakhs.
G. Brahmaji Rao, 36, floated ‘Embiz Jewel Online Marketing’ and opened an office at Rao Towers at Narasimha Nagar on April 4 this year. He appointed V. Krishna Murthy Naidu, 36, as an assistant computer operator. The company lured investors by promising to pay them Rs.72, 000 at the end of 100 days, if they pay Rs.10, 300 and join as members.
Each member, however, has to enrol three more members each. The company also accepts orders for making of gold ornaments. The members have to pay 50 per cent of the order value as advance. The accused collected about Rs.2.5 lakhs from 20 persons but failed to issue gold ornaments in time as promised.
Complaint lodged
On a complaint filed by D. Suresh of Madhavadhara, CTF SI K. Lakshmana Murthy and his team conducted a raid and arrested Brahmaji Rao and Krishna Murthy Naidu. They also seized five gold chains, two gold bangles, two gold ‘mattilu’ (hangings), Rs.18, 000 in cash, two monitors, two desktops and photo albums.
Interrogation revealed that Brahmaji was already wanted in connection with a similar case at Saroornagar in Hyderabad. Krishna Murthy Naidu had only joined the company as an employee and doesn’t seem to have any connection with the racket. The company also enrolled another 400 members online. The accused were handed over to the Fourth Town police.
