Harrasment by HDFC Bank credit card recovery agents

My name is Siddharth Shankar Kanungo and I am writing to bring certain facts to your kind notice.

I used a silver credit card (No: ***********81462) from HDFC Bank in 2005 during my stay in Delhi. Later, I got relocated to my home town Bhubaneswar after duly informing the bank about the same. As required, I had also provided my new contact details however, I did nor receive any periodic statements and other updates from the bank with regards to my account at my new address in Bhubaneswar. Therefore, I stopped using the card and decided to disposed it. Accordingly, I cut it diagonally, sealed the pieces in an envelope along with a letter to the bank requesting closure of the account. Since then I was not able to make payments due on me. Yet I did not recieve any correspondence from the bank and as a matter of fact, I have not received any formal correspondence until today when I received a call in the morning at 11.54 am from the number 919540597954. The person on the other side introduced himself as an officer of the Delhi Police. He was extremely abusive and threatened me of dire consequences if I do not call Mr. K.L. Pradhan immediately. I called Mr. Pradhan on the number 917428095839 and found him even more rude and impolite. He also provided me with the credit card number (No: ***********81462) however, I am not sure if the same was mine as I disposed it long time back. According to him the amount due on the card is Rs. 60000.00 and I need to go to the nearest branch of HDFC bank and pay the same by Monday 3.00 pm failing which I shall face legal action. However, according to my perception, the dues on the card should not exceed Rs. 6000.00. Also I need to have information about the current position of my account from your end so that I can proceed any further towards the settlement of the same.

In the meantime, I have met with a severe road accident and am jobless for the past couple of years. In such a situation it becomes impossible on my part to fulfill such an illegitimate demand of Mr. Pradhan, especially when I have not been informed about the status of my account even once in all these years.

Please help me resolve this issue as i am traumatized and feel harassed by your recovery agents. I do not have any idea as to who are the authorized HDFC bank personnel to resolve this as I have little scope to find out the truth without your kind assistance. But I am still willing to go for a settlement if I am allowed enough time apart from reasonable assistance from your end.

Please get bank to me as soon as possible so that we can go ahead and resolve the issue.
