Pickeral Lake is a fraud. This is John Haines 4th rehab centre in a year. Check out Vita Novus Compaints Board for any information before you fork over your money to this guy. There are many legitimate rehab centres in this country, so please..buyer beware.

We want open communication and input about any drug and alcohol rehab center. We would appreciate a little more detail though. What about their drug rehab program do you feel is a fraud? Did you attend Pickerel Lake Rehab? Are you an ex-employee? We welcome any information from some one who is presently at Pickerel Lake rehab to provide us with more information as well.

I am an employee of Pickerel Lake Recovery Center and have been with the owners through their changes. I want to make it well known that the ex and disgruntled employees plus discharged or failed clients (possibly dontdoit above) are the ones responsible for these nasty, slanderous and defamatory comments and people should know that for one John Haines has moved locations but for reasons other than what was posted here and on these complaint sites. The facility was smaller before and could only allow some 20 clients and a bigger facility was needed and Pickerel Lake was picked. As Pickerel Lake was being readied the Lotus program at Greenstone was used in transition till the final location was ready. The people slandering John Haines and the facility seem to think it was cause they were shut down but that was not the case it was that the previous property didn’t suit what was needed for a larger facility and a decision had to be made by Mr. Haines and the old location (which was being leased) could not come to agreement for purchase (which involved legal proceedings and a battle between Vita Novus and the property owners) so instead they bought Pickerel Lake. Pickerel Lake is a beautiful Facility as well as a great program which can serve up to 35 clients by offering not only a great program but many amenities like 140 acres of serene landscape and property, with indoor pool, sauna, hot tub, games rooms, not to mention the accommodations are second to none with big comfortable beds, big screen televisions with DVD and Satellite and lots of space to be in while recovering.
Mr Haines and his team have even opened a second facility in north Newmarket for those wanting a fortified 30 day program with none of the amenities like at Pickerel Lake but straight program at a lesser price for those that can’t afford the elite facility with all the bells and whistles.
I have always held this man and his program in high regard and he dedicates his life to always making better available for those suffering from addiction, certainly nothing like the picture these cowards and less than standard people have painted with their slanderous and defamatory totally false comments on these complaint forums. Shame on them all and shame on those that judge someone or some place based on this ill remarks and postings.
Your missing out on some of the best that addiction recovery has to offer.

I am a person with no vested interest, whatsoever. I have nothing to gain nor lose, financially or otherwise. I would like to comment on dontdoit. Pickeral Lake F******G rocks!! I am in recovery myself and not in treatment but attend AA meetings. I am only 2 1/2 months in this program, so maybe I DONT KNOW SHIT…..right…? Well, I have taken from Pickeral Lake Therapists a tonne of amazing stuff that has helped change my life. When I see these guys, hear these guys…they are getting exactly what they need to recover…and what is that folks??? F*****G HONESTY!! These boys are stripping down to the short and curlies and taking a real look at who they are. Pickeral Lake WORKS!! I am gaining insight into myself and my fellow man by attending these meetings and hearing the Pickeral Lake Boys. So dontdoit…..???!!! I fail to see how any of the business side of a Treatment/Recovery centre has any bearing on how well or effective the intended purpose of the facility does. Who cares how the owner (s) handles its affairs if the clients are receving the benefits. Unless clients are paying for a service and not receiving that service due to fraudulant actions, then it doesnt seem relevant as to the level or quality of care they are getting. If it is beneficial to the person in recovery and they are getting the quality that is advertised (regardless of the clients choices after/during treatment…everyone is accountable for choices), then Pickeral Lake is doing their services as advertised and agreed subsequent to intake and paperwork by the facilitators and the clients. The definition of fraud is quite clear defined by the law and uses simple terms anyone can understand. Pickeral Lake staff has nothing but the welfare of their clients at the top of the list for priorities as far as I can see. Actions/attitudes and results are what matters here.

If a business does not get the required zoning and approvals, it can be shut down, which might be more than an inconvenience to anyone who was attending that program. Plus should not a drug and alcohol rehab program do as it teaches? I’m assuming they are not telling clients to go out and start their lives and break any rules that seem to get it your way. Plus why should any business get to choose which rules it follows? If you do not care about zoning, maybe they will not care about food safety and fire regulations? I’m not accusing anyone of anything, it just is not a great message to be sending out.

You have a great point there, I didn’t see it from that angle. Everyone sees things so differently. Thanks for reminding me that my brain is in recovery and I am still askew. Lots to learn!! I guess my idea was that I just dont see Pickeral Lake as some kind of scam. I would hate to think someone wouldn’t enter that facility because people think it is some kind of fraud. I can assure you that the business will not be shut down and create any inconvenience for anyone attending the facility to “get well” from addiction. So Mr admin I will keep you and the others on this blog site, up to speed on the “Zoning” issue which as I said is just a change of use permit application for one building on the property. In the mean time Mr Haines and his team of specialists will continue to provide the very best in care to those that require a program for living. As one individual on here indicated there are 2 big meetings held at Pickerel Lake Recovery Center per week in which local recovering addicts and alcoholics attend at the Center’s big beautiful convention center and partake in an evening meeting of recovery. It seems there is lots of good being given to others and the local community regarding recovery by John Haines and Pickerel Lake Recovery Center.

We were talking in terms of ANY recovery center that would ignore the business side of things like zoning. We made no mention of Pickerel Lake Recovery. We were commenting that such behavior would be not consistent with what a program would be teaching their clients, and not a good message to be sending out. The Armour Township Council meeting this past Tuesday was very informative. As per Council/Reeve, John Haines is still not abiding by the Town’s Cease and Desist Order and is still conducting business at the Pickerel Lake Rehab Center. The order is still in effect. We understand that John Haines did submit a amendment request for zoning which was rejected by the Town because it was incomplete. The bottom line is as Council/Reeve said, the Town is in the process of taking John Haines to Court. You can find this information for yourself by calling Armour Township as this is Public Information. The Council/Reeve indicated to all of us (it was a packed house) that if John Haines walked into the meeting, they would not recognize him as they have never met this man. Council/Reeve made is very clear that they are willing to work with any business who operates in their Township. The only consideration is, that they do it legally.

The Minutes of Last Weeks Armour Township Meeting say the Town is in LEGAL PROCEEDINGS with the Owner and Pickerel Lake Rehab for Non -Compliance. I thought this was resolved John??? So you
say you had an open house, but the Minutes of Last weeks meeting say different. Armour Township nor any of it’s Council Members have EVER been to Pickerel Lake Rehab. I guess that means you might be

While freedom of speech must be allowed the minutes of the above posted meeting were of the past.
I am an employee and want people to know that as of Tuesday evening May 15th the township councils (2 councils as one for the local Burks Falls who now have a say in all zoning and regional matters and the region council who have to now deal with planning to amend the zoning which is a legal process) have been to the center as well as the consortium of delegates locally who have not attended any of the council meetings thus far but will now over the next few months during this process to ensure that the local areas residents voices are heard in support of Pickerel Lake Recovery Center.
There will be either a zoning amendment or change of use permit. But be now assured the very best planners and developers as well as local lawyers all in support of Pickerel Lake Recovery Resort and what this facility stands for in its dedication to the recovery of those that suffer from addiction are involved and will safeguard the longevity of the Center’s location.
More info will follow but we were informed that this process will take some time to be dealt with and can be tied up in court for some time.
In the mean time the very best in care for all clients that attend the center will be assured.
We have just started our new wonderful program with the local area residents in addiction recovery meetings and 10 residents and recovered individuals who have helped bring the all new Equine therapy program to the facility.
We will endevour to keep all informed.

The bottom line is: There is STILL A CEASE AND DESIST ORDER IN AFFECT and John Haines is in BREACH OF THIS ORDER by Continuing His Operations at Pickerel Lake Rehab. The Town is in the process of TAKING JOHN HAINES TO COURT FOR NON-COMPLIANCE.

As a local Tax Payer, MY MONEY is being used to TAKE JOHN HAINES TO COURT!!! You bet I’m not happy. I have a seasonal home in this Township. I am just catching up with all that’s being going on for the past 6 months.

Nothing has Changed at Pickerel Lake Rehab/Pickerel Lake Recovery.
The Town is Taking John Haines to Court for OPERATING A BUSINESS ILLEGALLY as per Armour Township Zoning By-Laws.
As far as the Petitions go, you can fax them or drop it off at the Town Office in Burks Falls. For Legal reasons, make sure only One Person signs each page. For example, if 10 individuals are signing the Petition, you will require 10 separate sheets of paper.
Recently Two individuals who were at Pickerel Lake Rehab stated that they were ripped off. Surprise eh??? They paid for a lengthy stay only to be kicked out 3/4 ‘s of the way through their stay.
Also, they stated that if you want drugs, the best place to go is Pickerel Lake Rehab/Recovery. It was stated that YOU CAN GET ANY KIND OF DRUGS AT THIS PLACE. This is why this industry needs to be REGULATED. THIS IS SAD. YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF MR. HAINES!!!
There are individuals who say that John has illegally billed their Credit Cards for SERVICES THAT WERE NOT PROVIDED! This is CALLED FRAUD! This place has to be shut down. Victim’s are being Victimized all over again when they go to this place.
