Wrong report to CIBIL

Recently I applied for a Home loan with HDFC Bank and in the processing, I came to know that my CIBIL report shows a big outstanding in one of my card which is overdue and needs to be cleared immediately. I got shocked as I promptly pay my credit card dues and hence applied for the CIBIL report to know the card number and the bank details.

On receiving the CIBIL report, I found that there were around 5 credit cards listed against my name, when I actually hold only 2. I found a card number issued by HDFC Bank with balance of Rs.52445 which is overdue and the report says I'm the defaulter, but I actually do not own that card number.

When I went and enquired in the Credit cards division, I came to know that the card was issued in the name of the person whose name is somewhat similar to my name and since his mother name and my mother name are same, they have reported me as the defaulter to CIBIL. This clearly shows the carelessness of the Bank and its lethargic approach towards customers.

I escalated the issue, but it has been around 2 weeks and no response from Bank person till today. He gave me a mobile number for contact which always goes unattended.

What if my home loan was rejected because of this issue? The bank person cooly asks me to escalate the issue to CIBIL than to bank as that process will be a bit faster. It's a shame on HDFC bank and its customer service. If this continues it will lose many of its valuable custome
