These is regarding the unnecessary charges forced on my credit card account. I got this credit card in 2003 with expiry date in oct. In the month of June I made some purchase of amount near 1000. I was not sent the credit card statement for that month but statement with the late payment and finance changes (Rs 200) in the next month. I called up customer care and they assured me that this amount would be reverted in next month's statement. I paid the amount other than extra charges but next month they again added extra charges over the extra charges in previous month. I again called up customer care and they again told me that by next month charges will be reverted back. The same thing kept on going and in october I applied for the cancellation. They sent a letter saying there were some miscommunication from the sales person and they want me to continue with this card. I again called up customer care and they told me to send the original copy of this letter by dropping it in the drop box. When I asked to personally meet and handover the letter in person, they told that its not possible. They always prefer to talk on phone. At the end, I went to the HDFC office in Indiranagar (Bangalore). I talked to a person and he told me that he checked my account and they will definitely revert back the amount. He mentioned that right now he can not do it as this has to be done by some other team but he was 100% sure that this would be done. When I told him to give me written proof, he told me that he can not give any written proof but this will be done surely in 2 to 3 months time. When I asked why it should take 2 to 3 months time, he stated that they were in a process of auditing all the accounts as it was year end. I asked him what about the statements that every month I am getting. He told that not to worry, credit card statements are automatically generated so I will get it, but in 3 months all amounts and extra charges will be reverted. After 3 months when nothing happened, I called up customer care. They told that we can not do anything on this regard. Our database shows that Rs 2000 is pending in your account and you have to pay this amount. I told them that I want to discontinue the card. They told that you have to write a letter and drop it any drop box. I did the same but my card was not canceled. Again when I called them they mentioned that they never received the letter. I went to Indiranagar office again. I talked to the same person. He told me that he checked my account and it shows that all charges will be reverted in next months statement. I told me to give me written proof and as I can not make bank understand about this. He told that he can not give any written proof. Even I went to main branch of HDFC bank in Kasturba Road in Bangalore but they said that we don't take credit card issues here and you will have to call at certain numbers. He mentioned that head office is in chennai so I need to contact there. This was really frustrating. Either of the three ways, I could not get any written letter. Customer care said other thing, the person I personally met told me some other thing. I had no option rather than to believe the person I talked personally. I wrote a letter again and destroyed my card and dropped it drop box. I called up customer care and they again denied to have received the letter. I told them that I have already dropped it and I don't have any proof and they also denied to give any personal contact and office address where I can directly go and handover the card. I told them that I have destroyed by card and please stop sending me the statements. From next month (April) they stopped sending me statements. I took it as the matter has been closed. But this was my mistake. Just a week ago, (July) after 2 years they sent me another letter saying that I have Rs 5000 amount pending. When I talked to the credit card department they talked very rudely. They told me to show written proof if any. I told them written proof was never given to me. Now they are demanding Rs 5000 from me. They blocked my HDFC salary account and my cheque was bounced that I paid towards other bank credit card charges. They deducted Rs 350 for cheque bounce. I talked to a Manager in credit card department but she talked very rudely saying that I have to pay the amount if I fail to show any written proof. I don't know what should I do now. They have almost trapped me. When I asked to give any office address where I can talk to any senior person, she declined straight forward saying that it has to be done through phone only. I just don't know what to do.
