Domestic Gas cylinder of Indane
Leakage in newly supplied gas cylinde

Sir/Madam,

I am a consumer of Indane gas under the distributor M/S Radharaman Gas Service 72, Gangapuri, Kolkata- 700093. My consumer number is 20530. On 16/01 did my booking for gas cylinder and I got the delivery two days back. In the evening of my date of delivery I found the smell of gas is coming from the recently delivered sealed cylinder. As a safety precaution I did keep the cylinder outside my room in open air and booked my complaint to my distributor today morning (order no 40 dated 06/02) for the replacement of the cylinder. In the evening my distributor sends a mechanic who opened the seal and after inspection found the cylinder ok. On my repeated appeal to them they said to look into the matter of replacing the cylinder. But afterwards I got a call from their office that they could not replace the cylinder as they did not find it defective. On my request they came again with another mechanic and inspected the cylinder and tried to convince me that it was not a defective one and so they can not replace it as Indian Oil will not take it back from them. When I asked them to give a written confirmation that the cylinder was ok they refused to sing and said such written confirmation they can not give. It’s really pity that the distributor is taking the customers complaint so lightly and since it involves the safety of my family so I can not take it lightly. They tried to convince me that during the transportation of the cylinder it could have come in contact with a defective one so the smell of ethyl markaptan was coming. Leaving with no alternative I might have to use the same defective cylinder once my existing one gets exhausted which I still feel is a defective one. Not only me but I found many people also lodged compliant today to my distributor for defective cylinders along with me. If my distributor can not give any written assurance after inspecting the cylinder then where as a consumer of a company like Indian oil our safety stands? Who will take the responsibility if anything happens to my family? My distributor said they have nothing to do with it and if I still have any problem with the cylinder I will have to go to their office on Tuesday between 12’o clock to 1 pm to talk to the company people. I still strongly believe that the cylinder is leaking. What if anything happens to me before Tuesday? Such kind of treatment is not really expected from a company like yours. I thought I should bring this to your kind attention.
