Indian Railways
Extremely non cooperating staff

My Mother, aged 52, had to face many problems during her journey by Gorakhpur-Yesvantpur Express. The staff members travelling from Nagpur-Secundarabad were extremely non-cooperative and rude in behaviour. The staff refused to provide any medical assistance, upon knowing that one of the passengers has met an injury.

Some of the major problems faced were:

1>There is no pantry car in the train, inspite of the fact that the train travels for more than 2 days with only 10 stoppages in total.

2>The attendants were very rude in providing the basic facilities like bedroll itself.

3>The attendants refused to aid any elderly passenger during the journey.

4>The staff including the TT, never provided any medical assistance to the injured passenger. My Mother was injured and asked for medical assistance several times but no action was taken by any staff member. Finally one of the co-passengers, who was a very elderly person himself, had to risk and was able to provide the medicine. This could have led to another mishap in hurry to catch the train back. Such conditions are forced due to non-cooperation received from the staff in charge.

5>All the passengers had a very tough time for making available basic things like food and water, during the journey when the time duration between 2 stations is more than 3 hours on an average. Any station missed by any passenger by mistake, will cost himher to wait for total of 6 hours minimum, for buying water or food or even medicine for that matter.

My Mother had to get down at the ‘Sevagram’ station to buy water, where the stoppage is only 2 mins, and in this attempt she got slipped while boarding the train, as it started moving. She had to do this herself since no one around was cooperating at all. No one was aware about the stoppage time of this station. This station is not listed under the official stoppages of the train. The train was made to halt for a min upon this incident. She got severely injured. During the journey, there was no response from the TT, upon requesting for medical assistance several times. She had to wait till her destination station. The pain did increase during the journey and in such conditions the patient is expected to run around to search the TT first, who never bother to respond. This entire accident and pain due to this injury could be avoided very well, if the staff was little helpful.

This is extremely sad to know that the members of the Nagpur railway staff have always been very non-cooperative in every train for that matter. The attendants boarding the train should be made aware to help the passengers in extreme conditions when required. A small unwillingness on their part could cost a life at times.

In this journey, there was no sign of any medical assistance, even when the patient requested for more than 5 times. This is extremely risky to make any of our elderly female family members travel by this train.
