Ashford University/Clinton, IA
Overlapping Loans

I completed a Master's Degree October 12 in Organizational Management. The field of degree is limited to jobs right now due to the economy. I called Ashford and inquired about getting a second Masters Degree in Education. The enrollment advisor informed me that I could obtain that degree. I was informed that the someone would get back with me with a tentative start date and other necessary information. I did receive a call back with a start date of October 27. I then inquired about financial aid. I was informed that I could go on line and apply for financail aid. I did that, I called the school back in November inquiring about the status of my financail aid. I was informed that I was awaiting processing. I called the school back in December, I was informed that I still had to be processed. I called the school back in January, I was informed that there was a flag on my account stating that I was in an overlapping loan situation. I made several calls to my financial advisor. He would not answer nor return my calls at first. Finally I called the grievence department, left a voice mail. Someone called me back, I explained to her the situation. She stated she would send me an email on the steps to take. I finally got my financial advisor on the phone. He attempted to explain to me what had happened. He stated that the University turn around time between financial aiid was 36 month period. I believe I am correct in what I thought I understood him to say, and then he said I had a 30 month or day turn around time. I explained to him that was not my fault, becasue I was told in the beginning that every thing was alright and it was ok to go on line an apply for financial aid. In the mean time, I had called Sallie Mae, the lender, a representative informed me that the loan had been processed and they were awaiting the school to send them the ok that the loan had been accepted. Now I am seeking relief of this situation. Financial Aid at Ashford did admit that someone dropped the ball, but I am the one being penalized. I have taken two classes under the new degree for which I have no financial aid to cover, and I am being asked to drop out of school until my financial aid can be available again. Aa of right now, I have filed a grievance and am awaiting upon a decison. My next class has been rescheduled until April. Please help me to obtain a resolution to this situation.
