My son Siddharth Tripathi has been studying in BTLIT for past 3 years, the college is affiliated to VTU. He has been attending all the classes regularly for the past semester however just 3 days before the term end examinations, he came to know that his name has been put on the Detainees list on the grounds of low attendance. When we visited the institute, the teachers, HOD and Principal all misbehaved with us, told that our son is not good in academics and made charges that he has attended hardly 1 class in entire semester. When I requested them to provide us the attendance sheet, they asked us to leave. There is no proper attendance registration in the institute, some times a plain sheet is circulated in which students sign, some times teachers call out students' name and put present/absent accordingly and some times nothing is done. They refused us to show any details regarding attendance. When we said how can we trust the teachers without any proof of records, they shouted us and told that we are insulting them by saying so whereas we were being harassed and embarrassed every moment we spent there. As per their records, the student has secured 62% attendance in one subject and hardly above 30% in any other subject, how is this possible that a sincere student going to college and attending all the classes of one subject does not appear at all in rest. The college follows total partiality towards non-local students. It is often that the other state students are frequently taunted at. It was not just with the student, the teachers around seemed to be only enjoying our plight and laughing when we were running around and requesting each one of them. We finally made a hard decision to get our son out of the college, we realized that he would be living in a hell for unknown no of years, had we left him there to study. The boy broke down inconsolably on realizing that 3 years of his life has been wasted due to the favorism, partiality, and step-motherly behavior of the institute and it's teachers against the students from other states.
It is an unsaid truth that no student in the class has ever secured 70 or 80 percent of the attendance, it is also well known that teachers provide help to local students with internal marks and attendance statistics to help them pass. Our hearts bled because of the irresponsible behavior of the staff and Principal. The teachers did not even blink an eye on our request, for them it is a norm to have a student detained, something as usual that they care least about it.
