I am located in lawrenceville, New Jersey
I have been getting couple of phony calls lately indicating that they are calling from Federal government and they have a Free Grant of money from $8000 to $20000.
They usually ask if I am 18 years or old and if I have atleast $239 in my bank account.
Then they say that I can choose the amount I want as a Free grant. But before the grant can be granted, I should pay a sum of $239 to cover the processing charges. from the way he talked I clearly understood that he is calling from India. Since now a days VoIP (voice over ip) technology has grown so much and lot of providers (vonage, lingo for instance) are providing VoIP phones, people from anywhere in the world can make calls to USA as if they are physically located.
I realized that he is con artist and I told him that I am going to call the police. he hung up on me.
1, I want to know whom to report this.
2, I wish the appropriate authorities disconnect their leased lines or voIP phone services permanently since it will completely cut them off from doing this fraud. I guess since these people are not even located in the USA, authorities may not be able to catch them in person.
I think the only and best way is to make sure that their communication facilities are cut off.
Folks from New Jersey and from Anywhere in USA, DO not be a victim to this Scam.
There is nothing called free money.
They say "Free food is found only in Mouse traps" :)
