American University of India (Acer Foundation), Kodaikanal
Non Fulfillment of promise and poor education

Dear Sir,

Greetings.

I had got my son son admitted into American University of India (AUI), Kodaikanal in for their MBA course, a twinning program, under which the first year was to be done at AUI, India and the second year at Bradley Univeristy, Illinois, USA. The total fees for the first year was Rs.6 lacs, which I paid in 4 installments totaling Rs.5, 50, 000.

The address is:

American University of India

No. 23/95, Laws Ghat Road,

Ugarthe Nagar,

Kodaikanal, Tamilnadu, India.

Telephone: 0091 - 4542 - 243763 Mobile: 91 - 9840682832

website is: www.auiedu.com

e-mail is: [email protected]

I have the following complaint against AUI:

1. Due to reasons best known to Bradley and AUI, Bradley refused to send the I-20's needed, and no student could travel to USA.

2. The first year exams were supposed to have been conducted under the supervision of Bradley. But, the exams were conducted and corrected by AUI. Even the mark sheet and completion certificate does not carry signature of any official from Bradley

3. Professors from Bradley were supposed to take classes for a few weeks. Apart from an official visit by 2 officials from Bradley, no classes were held by anyone frm Bradley

4. AUI claims that facilities like horse riding, golf, football, etc. will be provided. But, AUI does not own or manage infrastructure needed for such activities. The students are made to pay for facilities that are available to all and general public for a fee. The infrastructure is not exclusive to AUI.

5. In order to overcome the risk of visa rejection by American Consulate, the students were to be registered with Madras University also. Though the students were registered, no one was permitted to write the exams on completion of first year. In fact, no material or ID card as issued by Madras University was issued to the students.

6. AUI is projecting their MBA program with Madras University as a 'regular' program. The reality is that their MBA program is a participatory program with the Department of Distance Education of Madras University. Even the material given by Madras University is manipulated to show as materials prepared by AUI and NOT Madras University

7. The tuition fees charged by Madras University is less than Rs.19000. But, AUI charges nearly 5 times that amount under the pretext of quality education. The fact is that the quality is poor and not worth the amount charged.

8. The hostel facilities is also not of 'international standards' as advertised. The food supplied is bad and cause of health problems for several students

9. We were promised that on account of a tie-up and understanding with HDFC Bank, loans could be arranged with ease. The fact remains that ALL banks including HDFC refuse to grant a loan for any amount. We are informed that AUI does not confirm to their 'standards'.

10. I have been following up repeatedly with Mr. Pradeep Alexander, the Chairman of AUI for a refund of the amount paid by me. Unfortunately, no reply has been received so far. I have also complained directly to Madras University on 29th December.

AUI has got approval from AICTE and a few other ones from different organizations. It is my request to you to kindly intervene and ensure that AUI does not cheat and take gullible students for a 'ride'.

I can submit a detailed complaint along with necessary proof on receiving your advice and guidance.

Thanks and Regards

Ajay Mital
