I had a problem with my phone recently. The problem i faced was a sort of stuck set which effectively made the phone unusable. It would register a screen press or button press many minutes after pressing or more often not register at all. The backlight would persist indefinitely.

I thought I would give it at the samsung service centre at Ameerpet, Hyderabad, India. Someone told me not to give my faulty cell phone to samsung care, but i thought I would, since i assumed the original service centre would offer some measure of reliability. I was sadly mistaken.

After a terribly unpleasant wait of 3 hours just to see a technician at the centre, I was told the technician would attempt a software reset, if it did not resolve the issue he would change parts to solve the problem. I was told i could call the service centre to receive information on the status of my phone. I called two days later, and the person on the line said no such phone had been given and that the system had no such entry. They asked me to bring my receipt and come to the shop. The shop is quite far away from my house but because i was worried about the phone i made the trip immediately. After going there, I was told that the technician who was repairing my phone was waiting for some "lcd link wire" part to arrive. On receiving this part he would call me. I requested to speak to him personally at the time to find out about the software update but I was told that he would call me and thats I could not speak to him at the time. They gave me his name, which was written on the receipt. I left the shop and called the number and asked to speak to him. This was again denied and I was told he would call me.

After a few days I received a call from samsung care who told me that my phone required replacing of the touchscreen. This would cost 1500 rupees. I accepted and was told that i could collect the phone anytime. Afterwards I searched on the internet and found that the price of the digitizer/Touchscreen for my phone model s5230a (otherwise called samsung star) was a mere 2.5 dollars till around 5 dollars (comes from 100 rupees to 250 rupees) and ebay selling it for 300 rupees. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html? _nkw=samsung gt-s5230 digitizer

When i went to collect my phone I asked the person why they were charging me more than ten times the price. They replied evasively about taxes and service charges. And asked me to bring it up with the company. When i received my phone i noticed several places where the paint was chipped off and a large distortion in the centre of the screen which occurred when i used the touchscreen. The distortion was similar to when the screen is pressed hard. When i asked the person about it I was told the lcd also has problems and would require replacement. Then i carefully observed the phone and noticed that the technician had not put it together properly and there was a clicking sound when i pressed down on the front of the screen and something shifted and settled inside. The distortion reduced and i was left with a deep sense of disappointment in samsung service. I was sure I would never come to samsung care again, and realized why my friend had warned me so.

POOR SERVICE, SHODDY WORKMANSHIP, OVERPRICING and CHEATING THE CUSTOMERS are the reasons why I would advice all samsung customers never to go to samsung care.
