Not refunding advance for their mistake

I had made an advance payment for a Kurl-on mattress which the shop had said delivery will be after about 5 days or so. It is now 12 days and when I enquire, the shop says they have forgotten to place my order to their vendor. This is very upsetting as I needed the mattress urgently due to guests and now he says he will procure it and will take 10 more days. I demand a refund of my advance but he refuses to pay me back my advance but given me a credit note asking me to purchase anything else from his shop when I do not need anything else. Why should I be at the mercy of the shop for no mistake of mine?? Please guide me to take necessary action to get my advance cash back from the shop Handloom House, Jayanagar 4th block, Bangalore.
