Guru Tegh Bahadur (C) Hospital, Shastri Nagar, Ludhiana
Misbehave and irresponsible behaviour of docto

Dear Concerned,

I am writing this mail to share my experience about what happened with me at your hospital. Yesterday I visited Guru Tegh Bahadur (C) Hospital, Shastri Nagar, Ludhiana with my 2 yr old daughter who was suffering from fever. The slip was issued at 9:53 am. But to great disappointment, the doctor, Ms. Shruti Patel, came to her cabin at 11:25 am. I alongwith other patients (appr. 10 in no. with their kids) waited more than 1:30 hrs with my daughter in fever. The attendant told that doctor is on ‘round’ about at 9:00 am after checking 2 patients in her cabin. She refused to inform doctor about patients being waiting for so long for her and on asking any contact number, she said that no contact is available. We were left with no option other than merely waiting. On presenting our grievance to doctor after her arrival being too late, we received very irresponsible and annoying answer by her to take our kid to some other place. She also ‘brought’ to our knowledge that we have simply got a receipt of Mere Rs.30 and can have refund back from counter as she has ‘power/authority’ to refuse to attend us. It is worth stating that on enquiring at our own level, I came to know that this doctor was having a ‘cup of tea’ with her colleagues somewhere upstairs. My questions are:

1. Is this kind of irresponsibility expected from a doctor from such prestigious hospital and that too from child specialist?

2. Is Guru Tegh Bahadur (C) Hospital not paying their doctors well, that they are annoying the patients and ‘advising’ them to get their money back from counter and to visit some other doctor?

3. Is ward visiting done by doctors in time which is otherwise is scheduled to attend OPD patients? If so, it has strictly to be amended.

4. As my daughter was suffering from fever (which was not ‘serious’ according to doctor), what if someone visits the hospital with so called ‘serious’ condition? Isn’t this a height of ignorance/irresponsibility?

5. Am I at fault of visiting GTB (C) hospital for treatment of my child, as every time I see patients waiting for long for this particular doctor? (This time wait was really unbearable)

6. Just for a good sake, please check if this doctor is really having ward visiting during morning hours (which is totally wrong) and how much time it takes to do so?

7. Is everyone expected to visit the child specialist, keeping in mind, such a long wait?

I suggested doctor to put a notice/message outside her cabin about specific timing of non-availability of her. In this way patients can at least come to know about her arrival, and ‘petty’ patients like us can visit some other doctor, if wait has to be such long. But it proved to be of no use. She was not ready to listen to anything and to great extent her behavior was totally unacceptable. I further want to bring to your information that I had taken 2 hrs leave from my officer on grounds of illness of my ward. In this way I had also to face the queries of not being punctual regarding statement of being in office by 11:00am.

My request is to make suitable arrangements of timings (presently, if not) to prevent any sort of inconvenience being caused to patients due to non-availability of such mean doctors.
