I recently bought a new vodafone 3g usb stick with prepaid option thinking my monthly payment would be fixed and in control.

They gave me 1 GB Plan for first month for free. They told after 1 GB is used internet would stop working and then you have to recharge again for 1 GB for next month.

Charge for 1 GB per month is Rs 649, So i was assuming my total cost to be Rs 7788 per year.

When i used it for 2 days my 1 GB got over and my internet stopped working. Maybe because i downloaded some large files.

Now i recharged for 1 GB plan to restart the internet, it was recharged from vodafone website and they confirmed that it was recharged successfully. But my internet didnt start. Now i inquired about this problem on customer care and they told that my balance is negative i.e. Rs -85.8 . I asked them why my balance is negative they told you have over used the internet. How in the world is that possible in prepaid?? The internet stopped once my GBs were over. And now they are telling me i have overused and i need to pay that much amount to start the internet.

I talked to a senior person Mr Chintan Patel from customer care of vodafone and he explained that if 10 MB is left and if some file larger than that is downloading then we don't stop the download as it would lead to termination of download and loss of 10 mb to customer.

According to his logic my yearly cost for 24GB comes out to be Rs 12 lacks.

Following are the details :

3G Plan 1 GB Prepaid 1 GB plan Rs 649 per month, For 1 Year: Rs. 7, 788.00

Excess Use Charge*** 1 GB Rs 104857.6 (10p/10KB), For 1 Year Rs. 12, 58, 291.20

Total Rs. 12, 66, 079.20 Amount to be paid to Vodafone if we use total 24 GB of usage in a year

***According to Mr Chintan Patel from vodafone callcenter excees usage beyond your plan limit is possible if some file is already downloading. Suppose we are downloading a large file of size 1 GB which nowadays is common.

He also told about some hidden offline cost which they debit after half an hour which they have to pay to third-party, and they debit in our sim balance, which i couldnt understand what he was talking about.

This is how they are cheating the customer into paying more even on prepaid plan, which normally means you only have to pay in advance of what you want, but which is not happening.
