India Today Book Club
Online Sales Fraud

Hello,

My name is Kaizad Bharucha. I have been mislead by India Today Book club twice for a total of Rs 37494/-.

First case:

I had made a transaction (Order number: 880102412) with India Today Book club on 08/04 which was a clear case of misguiding and misselling.

I had got a call on my mobile from Mr Prabhat Kumar and he was talking about an offer, he said that there is an offer going on and only 10 people will be selected in it, then there will be a lucky draw among these 10 people out of which someone will win 8 lacs, someone will win 5 lacs and all the ten will atleast win an assured Rs 10, 000/-. He gave me a choice of 4-5 products that I could buy from, from which I chose an Aiptek camcorder worth Rs 7498/- and I made a payment through my credit card. I again reconfirmed as to how will I receive the assured amount be it Rs 8 lac or Rs 10000/- to which he said it would come to me as a cheque.

Now after all this when I called the customer care on 09/04 to cross check this offer, I spoke to Mr Mohsin Akthar who told me that there is no such offer running and that I was misguided in this regard. He asked me to send this mail and assured me that proper action will be taken.

I immediately lodged a complaint with him (complaint number - 445913) and also wrote a mail to them immediately asking them to cancel this transaction. There has been no reply from them on this.

That was 1 - again today i.e 13/04/10 I got a call from a person called Suraj Srivastav from India Today he said he was a floor manager and his email id is [email protected]. He told me about my previous transaction and that I have won an assured Rs 620000/- and I will get a call in sometime to ask for some details. He said he will send me the online form and other things after I get the confirmation call.

In sometime I got a call from somebody who told me the management is listening to this call and that I had won an assured prize but he said to get that I had to buy two products ' Samsung Omnia mobile' worth Rs 14998/-. I again fell in the trap and bought it through my credit card by doing two transactions of Rs 14998/- each that is I made a total payment of Rs 29996/- . (Booking ID pra88005678) and he also gave me some password which is 450262 I don't know what that is for. After this I have got no mail or no call from anyone and am not even able to reach them.

Now again when I called the customer care, I was told that they have not declared any such prize and I have been mislead.

This is seriously not expected from a company like India Today. I mean what is going on how can such things happen in the first place is there no one who is monitoring these calls.

To my previous mail also there was no reply and today I was told by the customer care executive that the product has been dispatched. I don't want this to happen for the samsung omnia mobiles. I am not going to accept any products from them and send back the consignment.

I have asked them to reverse immediately and my entire amount

Samsung Omnia (2 pieces) - Rs 29996/- and

Aiptek camcorder - Rs 7498/-

Total - Rs 37494 to be refunded immediately.

I have also made complaints to the customer care executive, the complaint number is '450262' which I made today and complaint number '445913' which I had made when I had bought the Aiptek camcorder.

I have made these payments through my credit card and if I don't pay I will be charged interest on it. Some serious action needs to be taken on such companies so that they stop duping people like this.

Regards

Kaizad Bharucha
