Sub: non-functioning of Telephones at the Information Counter at Alwaye Railway Station (ErnakulamDist: Cochin)
For the last two months, the telephones at the Information at the Alwaye Railway Station are found to be not functioning. Either it is faulty or the receiver is kept aside to avoid ringing so that the person sitting at the Information counter could have a free time. If the instrument is faulty, why no action has been taken for the last 2 months to get it replaced or repaired? I went to information Counter early morning at 4.00am to catch Gurvayoor Intercity Express as there was no ONE attending to PHONE at the Enquiry counter since the previous day. The person at the counter flippantly said that these phones (0484-262 9004 & 0484-262 9007) have been out of order since last 2 months, and when asked more about it he stated it was cable fault. I was surprised to hear this NEWS. Did he make a complaint? I asked. He said, he has not, and added that it was not his job. What a Responsible Person, is he! I told him that I would see that this cable fault would be set right by Tuesday-(ie 19 07) and all phones would work.
Soon the Train-Guruvayoor Intercity came at 5 am and I proceeded to Trivandrum. On the same day I returned by Tvm- Chennai and arrived at Alwaye at 8-10 pm. I straight away went to Railway Station Master On duty (on 17.07.2011 at 8.10 p.m.) and enquired him why no action was taken to get the cable fault set right. The Station Master gave a callous reply that he does not know, and is not interested to listen to such complaints. Is he not responsible for the entire Alwaye Rly Station, or is he only concerned with getting his salary on time? In case someone wishes to inform the Station Master on any matter about rail movement or about rail safety, how could he communicate it to the Alwaye Railway Station? And if the information counter-man is not at all interested in serving the passengers, what is the purpose of keeping him there on Railway’s salary?
On 18th morning I called Alwaye Telephone Exchange Cable Junior Engineer Mr. Davis Paul at (0484 262 4333) to know as to why no action has been taken from his side to repair the faulty telephones at the Railway station. BSNL Cable Junior Engineer informed me that he has not received any complaint from Alwaye Railway Station about faulty telephones, and as on 18.07.2011 there is no pending complaints about telephones. It is surprising that nobody from Alwaye Railway Station side has lodged any complaints about these two telephones. Immediately I lodged 2 complaints against these phones (for 262 9004 Compl: No: O-293 and for 262 9007 Compl: No: O-295) on behalf of railways, so that at least these phones would be in working condition. It is another matter if the person at the information counter keeps these phones off the hook to get an undisturbed sleep!
Also I would like to bring it to your notice that the LIGHTS on the Foot over bridge that leads to Western Side (Govt. HS school) are not working for the last so many days. The darkness on the foot over bridge gives safe heaven for criminals and anti-social elements. People like me who have to go early morning to catch trains from Alwaye Railway station fear using the foot over bridge. Is our Railway Station Master not concerned about proper lighting in the Railway Station area? I understand Station Master has a phone 0484 2630141 that phone also died and sleeps in graveyard... What a dedicated person, Divisional Manager Southern Railway Trivandrum, sorry Ministry of Railway of India has placed in Alwaye Railways station.!!
