This is with reference to autorickshaws plying in chembur area especially at CG road and Mahul Road. Rickshaw drivers refuse to go short distances and have become very choosy and fussy over choice of destinations. We have just come back from abroad and were very dissappointed with the state of affairs especially the auto rickshaws. One has to wait for 15-20 minutes to make a rickshaw driver agree to go somewhere. One such occassion today I tried hiring a rickshaw from Mahul Road to CG road. At first the driver refused..upon pleadng and request he relented. My wife has a painful tendonitis and cannot walk much so I requested the rickshaw driver to take the rickshaw below the building. He spoke very rudely and said that you could have walked that much distance and crossed the road..I have to take the rickshaw all the way in now... He did not have any change so we asked him to keep the additional money as he had come all the way inside. The rickshaw driver still kept on grumbling so I asked him to speak politely else we would complain so he started abusing loudly and said go ahead take my number... My wife said that we have paid you more than the meter charge yet you are grumbling, He said yes I have done u a big favour by dropping you. He sped the rickshaw and stopped at a distance. From there he got down and said.. take a note of my number and pickle it.. u cant touch me... Such is the approach of the rickshaw drivers. My sincere request is that if you can deput a few additional RTO's in CG road area especially to mann the richshaws for a few weeks to instill some fear of law and order else this problem will only profilerate.
