The service of Barclays Card is one of the most pathetic, troublesome and agonizing experience for the end user. I guess they go by the principle “if you have used me once I will not let you go at all, till I suck all your money”.
I made a purchase of 3500/- once on my card and converted it EMI for Rs 500/- a month with interest for 12 months. Since I was not using the credit card extensively I decided to cancel the card after 6 months. I got the card blocked, paid all the outstanding (Rs3500/- Rs. 500 charge for preclosure).
Following that when I placed a call to cancel the card, I was being told the system is under upgrade and was asked to call the next day… this continued for whole 1 month. And one fine morning came the bolt from the sky, when I placed the call to customer care – I had an outstanding of Rs. 1700 still left.
I almost got into conflict but Barclays folks did not relent.
FYI, I paid Rs. 1700 twice as i was getting messages that my details will be uploaded on CBIL that will not enable me to put a loan request with any bank.
I took me 1 year to get the card cancelled!
Now I can see the same thing happening with one of my friend except the fact that his outstanding amount as claimed is Rs. 17000/- for no purchases made yet.
I guess Barclays is trying to reduce the loss they suffered by extracting money by this unscrupulous means.
