I had two credit card accounts with Citi Bank:

1. 5546198493058012

2. 5546198430588004

These two above accounts were closed by me in year 2004. I called the customer care and requested to close the above account. After the submission of request, I got call from your Chennai branch and they confirmed the request of account closer. They confirmed me that there is no outstanding on my both the cards and he is going to close the same.

Next day when I checked my Citi Bank online portal I found that those two accounts were removed from my account list. I again confirmed the closer of my account by calling the customer care about the non-listing of the other two accounts.

Then after 4-4 and 1/2 years (is this number lucky for you guys?), I received one bank statement for my closed credit account (xxxx8012), stating that there is an outstanding amount of ~32, 000 on the same card.

In a state of total shock, I called up the citibank customer care and got to know from them that there is some payment (~100) was due on your card and after adding all the interest and all charges it became ~32, 000.

I didn't understand why I was not getting any communication from Citi Bank for last 4 years, if there was any outstanding amount on my card (which should not be there as per the confirmation at the time of account closer). Even I have not changed my mobile numbers for the last 4 years. If, Citi bank did any magic to send that letter to my address after so much time, then why they didn't did the same magic 4 years earlier. I could be in a state to clarify the issue.

Then customer care provided me phone nos. of other Citi Bank officials. To whom I called and sent mail regarding the same. They assured me that they will go in detail of the same and get this issue resolved. And will call me after that.

I again had not received any call from any Citi Bank official. But, after nearly 6-7 months I again received an SMS stating that there is an outstanding amount of ~RS. 34, 000 on my credit card account (xxx8012).(I am now highly depressed).

Again I called up customer care and they gave me following number and suggested me to talk to the person available on the number as this number belongs to collection center:

Collection Center number:- 01166525700.

When I called on the above number then the guy picked up the phone said that he will not be able to resolve the issue and I will have to call another number {not again :-(}. He provided me another number : - 01166182570. I talked to Amit Kumar on the given number and he was totally trying to prove it my fault.

I don't know what is wrong, because now a day's whenever I view any business news channel or try to search credit card issues on internet. I found that not only me but there are a lot of person that are having the same issue and that also with the Citi Bank only and not with other bank. Is there anything wrong about the bank, so that their letters or SMS's reaches to client only after 4-5 years?

Please help, as my this account was stated closed by Citi Bank 5 years back and dispute came after so long duration.
