IBT charges, high value cash withdrawl

Hi,

I have a savings bank account with HDFC bank in Mumbai. When I tried to withdraw more than 50, 000 Rupees and the bank charged me @ Rs. 2.90 per 1000 on the full amount. It is ridiculous. I have banked with various banks in many parts of the world and this kind of charge is unheard of.

The strange part of it is I was told when I was opening the account that there are no hidden charges, I can carry out day to day transactions the way I want to. Physical place doesn’t matter.

I can understand the money charged for clearing cheques. But this one is really no good. Need a solution to this as many customers across the country must paying this money and that could result into lakhs of rupees being charged on a daily basis.

If a customer has to pay to withdraw his own money then what is the use of savings account which are of 14 digits.
