As an informed citizen, I wish to bring to the kind attention of the consumer forum that retailers continue to overcharge than the printed packaged price.
On 20th May I was travelling enroute to Pune when I stopped by the Food Mall on the Mumbai Pune expressway. After having breakfast at Hotel Neeta International which was duly paid for, I had two chocobar icecream from a manned outlet that was just outside of the hotel. The printed price of the choco bar was Rs. 15/- however, the attendant demanded Rs. 20/- per icecream. I protested against paying the higher charges on the grounds that the icecream vendor was out in the open and should charge only the printed retail price. I was told that all items carry an additional Rs. 5/- over the printed price. I agreed to pay provided that the vendor provides me with a receipt of the amount and also informed that I shall lodge a formal complaint. The receipt, I was told will be printed by the hotel who owns the stall. I disagreed stating that it is unfair to levy any additional service charges since, I was having the icecream outside the restaurant without utilising any services.
Finally, the icecream vendor relented and accepted only Rs. 30/- for two icecreams (based on the printed package price). The reason for my complaint is to ensure that if the forum does not take cognizance of such instances, the retailers will continue to swindle gullible customers. There may be only a few (like myself) who wish to stand and challenge such fleecing for a better India.
I do hope that the forum takes certain measures in this light.
