I am surprised to see the number of complaints on India Today Book Club, supposed to be a reputed business house. I too had just made a complaint today on products not delivered even after payment.
I find the fradulent operation is still going on with no disdain, inspite of all these complaints. I think this racket has diabloic dimensions & needs criminal investigations by the police, lest more &more gullible public are going to be defrauded.
I shall narrate my recent experience - a phone call from India Book Club executive.
On 16th November at around! P.M., I get a call on my mobile from 01206494317 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 01206494317 end_of_the_skype_highlighting and claimed that he was calling from India Book Club, saying that I had won their Swiss Pack Lucky Draw with No SLD 11353580 and asked me to choose from the following products, a) pre- loaded Compac Lap Top with all accessories b) 32 " Sony LCD T.V c) I-Pod
each worth around Rs. 35000/-
I said if this is true I would choose the lap top.
Now he says that I have to make charity for Rs.5100/- to an N.G.O.M/s. Intergrated Development Trust, by cash to their A/c No: 21350100014683 at Mayur Vihar, Delhi branch of Bank of Baroda, from any branch of BOB from Ludhiana & give them the cash receipt number before 3.P.M along with my PAN card number, to enable them to issue Tax benifit voucher along with order. He said the courrier would confirm after 3P.M to enable dispatch.
I told him, I suspect this complicated insecure payment methodology he is suggesting.
Immediately the phone was disconnected.
I request the company to enquire into this & if necessary pass it on to the police to further investigate & bring to book the fraudsters.
Unless such fradulent caucus which normally involves insiders from these reputed institutions, are reigned in & brought to the books, this menace would take frankenstine dimension to the detriment to our peoples beliefs in our Democractic Government. In the mean time govt. should ban these non-trasparent telephonic order bookings.
There is enough data in this complaint to file a FIR with the local police, so that a good beginning can be made to arrest this menace.
